SPRINGDALE, Arch. (KNWA / KFTA) – The Springdale Police Department has issued arrest warrants for Kyle Smith, 41, a geometry teacher at Har-Ber High School in Springdale.
According to the Mandates page of the City of Springdale website, two mandates have been active for Smith since October 25.
The website lists the warrants as 2nd degree assault and 3rd degree assault and battery.
KNWA / FOX24 News has contacted the Springdale Police Department for more details on the warrants for assault and battery, but was unable to provide additional information. KNWA / FOX24 News also contacted the Washington County District Attorney, who directed us to the Springdale City District Attorney for further details. Phone calls and emails have not yet been returned.
Springdale Public Schools spokesperson Trent Jones said Smith was currently employed by the district and had been on paid leave for about three weeks. When asked if the district was aware of the warrants, Jones said “the district does not discuss staff”.
When asked for comment, Smith provided KNWA / FOX24 with this statement:
Please inquire. I saw the story on KNWA. From my lawyer’s visit with the detective yesterday afternoon, I understand he will be out of the office until Tuesday. As I have not had the opportunity to see the report or the details of their allegations, I have no comment at this time.
Smith is a former member of Fayetteville City Council and occupied the Ward 4, Position 2 seat in 2017 to fill a vacant seat. He lost a candidacy for re-election in November 2020.
This is a developing story, stay with KNWA / FOX24 news as we learn more.
