Seahawks schedule breakdown: early preview vs. Rams week 5
According to the Athletic, the best move of the offseason for the Seattle Seahawks is to trade against Gabe Jackson. It’s hard to argue with that. Russell Wilson has rightly complained that since he started playing for Seattle in 2021 he’s been too affected. Jackson should definitely help with this problem.
Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar writes that
If Jackson behaves like an above-average goalie this season and the rest of the squad remains stable throughout the year, then maybe Wilson won’t be complaining about being too affected in the 2022 offseason.
And Jackson should perform well. First, he will stay on the right side to guard as second-year guard Damien Lewis switches to the left side. The combination of Lewis’ left side and left tackle Duane Brown should be one of the best combos in the NFL. Jackson also strengthens the inside of the right and should help the right take on Brandon Shell with a veteran presence.
Jackson will be 30 at the start of the 2021 season, but that’s not old for an inside lineman who relies more on strength than speed and quickness as a tackle. Jackson is also a big man at 340 pounds.
Gabe Jackson makes the Seahawks a better team
Jackson remains healthy as he played all 16 games in 2020 and in addition to missing five games in 2019, he has not missed more than three in another season since 2015. Unlike Iupati who always seemed week to week, it can be assumed that Jackson starts every game. and play at a high level.
Jackson doesn’t normally have stupid penalties either. In 2020, Jackson only had two penalties handed down against him. Every year, but in 2017 (with five penalties), Jackson had four or less in one season.
What I mean in all of this is that Gabe Jackson is a good trade from the Seahawks, who only gave up a fifth round pick to get it from the Raiders, as Jackson’s addition should ensure that Russell Wilson will be less affected. He should also help open some holes for Chris Carson. Jackson is a good player and the Seahawks will be a better team.
