ANNE ARUNDEL, Md. – There is a new vaccination requirement at public schools in Anne Arundel County, as high school employees and student-athletes must be fully vaccinated.
Superintendent George Arlotto announced today that starting November 22, employees and students will be tested if they are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
“We still need to finalize parts of the plan, but the announcement of an effective date now allows our employees and the families of our high school students to start either gathering the necessary information or getting vaccinated. completely by November 22 if they choose to do so, âsaid Dr. Arlotto.
Regarding COVID-19, Dr Arlotto and the rest of the school system discussed the logistical steps up to a vaccination or testing model to prevent the spread of the virus.
Initially, these COVID-19 protocols were designed for employees, but have started to include student-athletes as the number of positive cases has increased in recent weeks. Dr Arlotto says requiring vaccinations and testing for athletes will extend the competitive seasons into winter and spring in sports.
âVaccines are the most effective way to protect you and your loved ones,â said Dr Nilesh Kalyanaraman, Anne Arundel County Health Officer. âThe goal of our collaborative efforts is to keep our schools open, and this is a key step in getting there. “
A vaccination certificate submission process and weekly testing protocol will be announced by mid-October.
