This portrait of courage under fire celebrates New York’s first openly transgender firefighter. For Brooke Guinan, firefighting runs through her veins — her father and grandfather both served in the FDNY. But as a transgender woman, her path to service was not without obstacles. The transition from male to female in what is still a predominantly macho profession proves to be a challenge for her colleagues and her family, while her boyfriend considers the impact of Brooke’s new public profile on her parents.
Movies That Matter was established in 2010 with the goal of raising awareness in the community about human rights issues that affect people in Fort Worth and around the world. The series features human rights film screenings and moderated discussions. The program is managed by the Diversity & Inclusion Department.
