Man accused of murder | News, Sports, Jobs


IRONWOOD – Pennsylvania man was arraigned Sunday on one count of first degree premeditated homicide-murder and several other crimes that stemmed from a fatal shooting in Marenisco Township on Friday, according to the County Sheriff’s Office by Gogebic.

One victim, identified by police as Thomas Fletcher, 49, of Marenisco Township, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

A second victim, identified by police as Austin Fletcher, 22, of Irvine, Calif., Was rushed to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital with a gunshot wound, the sheriff’s office said. He was then transported to Duluth, Minnesota, where he was treated and released.

The shooting suspect has been identified by police as Nicholas Millard, 30, of Spring Mills, Pa.

Mills was arraigned Sunday on the following counts by Judge Anna Talaska in the 98th District Court, according to the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office:

≤ premeditated first degree homicide-murder;

≤ assault with intent to kill and;

≤ two counts of weapons – criminal firearm.

The charges were authorized by Gogebic County District Attorney Nicholas Jacobs on Friday. Millard is being housed at the Gogebic County Jail on a $ 1 million cash bond, police said on Sunday.

Deputies from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police soldiers responded to a report of a shooting involving two victims in a cabin around 1:15 a.m. Friday, police said.

The officers who responded entered the cabin and were able to apprehend Mills without incident, according to a press release on Friday.

The Michigan State Police Crime Lab had been called in to help with the investigation.

The tribal police of Lac Vieux Désert, the Marenisco Ambulance and the Beacon Ambulance also responded to the scene.
