The baseball teams at Luther College and Briar Cliff University are delighted to announce that they will be the first college teams to play at the iconic site from the original film Field of Dreams in Dyersville.
This historic match will take place on September 16, 2022. Briar Cliff University seized the opportunity and invited Luther College as their opponent.
“We are delighted that our student-athletes, along with Briar Cliff’s, are the first collegiate players to take on the Field of Dreams, a field like no other, known to inspire and evoke emotions,” said Renae Hartl, director of the ‘intercollegiate athletics at Luther College. “We are very grateful that Briar Cliff University has given enough thought to our institution, our athletic program and its members to include us in this momentous event.”
Field of Dreams became a notable landmark in Iowa after the film’s release in 1989. Released by Universal Pictures, the film starred Kevin Costner and became an Oscar nominee for Best Picture of the Year. Major League Baseball hosted a Yankees vs. White Sox game at the site in August this year, the first-ever regular-season game to be played in Iowa. The match featured special guest Costner himself and drew over 5.9 million viewers.
The match between Briar Cliff University and Luther College on September 16 will take place at the film’s site.
“Playing on the Field of Dreams is something our players probably never thought they had the chance to do.
