Colin King launches sculptural accessories for the home with Menu

American interior designer Colin King teams up with Danish brand Menu to launch a series of home accessories including vases, paperweights, bowls and more

American interior designer Colin King is launching his homeware collaboration with Danish design firm Menu.

The Copenhagen-based brand has its own line of Scandinavian lighting, furniture and accessories, and also partners with creatives around the world to produce collections with a personal and local touch, available worldwide.

Clockwise from left: ‘Relevé’ tray, $149.95, ‘Surround’ vase, $229.95, ‘Rond’ bowl, $439.95

King is the last in this list. The Danes sought out the Tribeca-based New Yorker for its sensitivity to understated, natural materials and the two collaborated on a line of functional yet sculptural objects.

Formally trained as a dancer, King’s natural inclination to interact with space and bring it to life through movement and objects evolved quite naturally into his second chapter as an interior stylist. Although he has worked for editorial publications as well as well-known brands and as artistic director of Beni Rugs (see our selection of colorful rugs), this is King’s first real foray into collaboration in of design.

‘Sentiment’ Paperweight, $139.95

Each element manifests the sensation of passing time. The tall and narrow ‘Stance’ vase (ideal for single stems and branches) in bronzed brass has an intentionally raw finish to allow a patina to develop over time. The “Surround” vase is made from a single piece of mango wood and weighs over 2 kg. The elegant conical shape of the ‘Taper’ brass bowl appears to balance on its narrow end – unlikely, but it works. A ‘late autumn pear’ shaped paperweight, cast from a hand-cast shape in aged brass, is particularly charming. Stone bookends, acacia wood trays, a polished brass candle holder and a low profile brass key ring complete the offering. §
