Doubles race for Fenty and Ehrenschneider ends at ITA Fall Nationals

SAN DIEGO, California – University of Michigan Men’s Doubles Tennis Team Andre Fenty and Nino Ehrenschneider qualified for the second round of the ITA Fall National Championships, but failed to advance to the quarter-finals to complete their fall season on Friday (November 5).

Fenty and Ehrenschneider, who qualified for the tournament after winning the doubles title at the Midwest ITA Regional Championships on October 25, opened the game with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Tomas Rodriguez and Peyton Gatti of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Thursday afternoon (November 4).

They took a 2-0 lead in Game 1, then won three of the next four sets to maintain a 5-1 lead. A great rally saw Fenty finish and the Wolverines finished with a 6-2 victory.

In the second set, the Michigan duo took a 3-2 advantage and then won the next two points for a 5-2 advantage. The Chattanooga pair rallied to win two games, but Fenty and Ehrenschneider finished them off with a 6-4 victory.

The Wolverines qualified to take on Central Florida’s Trey Hilderbrand and Bogdan Pavel in the second round. After losing 7-5 in the first set and 7-6 (3) in the second, Fenty and Ehrenschenider suffered their first doubles loss of the season and ended the fall with an 8-1 record.

With the Michigan duo’s fall season over, the rest of the Wolverines will continue the action on Saturday (Nov. 6) at the Big Ten Singles and Doubles Championships in East Lansing, Michigan.
