DC website tracks availability of in-home COVID tests


Before you visit a testing site in the hopes of getting a home testing kit, check out this DC website to make sure you are visiting a site that has not missed testing.

WASHINGTON – As cases of COVID increase in the DMV, more people are looking for tests. Some people have reported standing in line for hours to get tested or to get a home test kit.

With the high demand, many test sites are running out of supplies before a majority of people can access the first rank.

A testing site in Loudoun County, Va., Closed after missing tests just 15 minutes after opening. Loudoun County Health Director Dr David Goodfriend said the site was forced to open more than an hour earlier to stop traffic forming on the road as people lined up .

In DC, demand is expected to increase further, as DC public schools have announced that students and teachers will be required to take COVID-19 tests before returning to school next week.

DC Health supplies eight library branches with 1,000 rapid test kits each, per day. Residents will be able to get two kits, or four tests, per day at these locations. Proof of residency is also required to obtain the kits.

Before visiting a testing site in the hope of getting a home testing kit, check this DC website to make sure you’re visiting a site that hasn’t run out of supplies for the day.

The “Test yourselfThe DC coronavirus website section includes an interactive map and site list showing the number of tests performed by each site throughout the day.

Each location listed includes an address, a link for directions, and the number of tests remaining with the time the supply number was last updated. For example, when checking out the Bellevue Library (William O. Lockridge) at 1230 Summer Rd SE, 8, the website shows that at 5 p.m. on December 30 there are 50 tests left in stock.

The website also includes instructions on how to use your home test and other frequently asked questions.
