DALLAS (NBCDFW) – Ring the bell in 2022 from the comfort of your sofa with Lone Star NYE! the the hour-long show will include music from country star Scotty McCreery to spectacular 10-minute fireworks display and drone show above the Dallas Reunion Tower.
With more people staying this year, our friends at NBC 5 in Dallas reached out to the Hyatt Regency Dallas for their advice on making cocktails at home.
Robin Cruz is the food and beverage manager at Hyatt Regency Dallas and says whiskey and bourbon drinks are the most requested drinks by guests of his hotel on New Years Eve.
He shared the hotel’s twist on an Old Fashioned.
2 oz. Rye whiskey
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
2 dashes of bitter orange
A little demerara syrup (a simple syrup will also do)
Pour all the ingredients into a mixing glass then add ice cubes and stir for 10 seconds. Serve in a highball glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with an orange zest. For an enhanced aromatic finish, squeeze the orange zest on top of the drink and rub on the edge of the glass.
Cruz said if you’re doing an Old Fashioned at home, ice cream is key.
“Especially for an Old Fashioned, I think you have to mix it really well and use a big ice cube,” said Cruz. “It really changes the flavor when you put in a big ice cube, also just an orange. I think everyone has an orange at home, and if you can just get a little bit of orange just hit that old-fashioned orange and that’s going to make it amazing.
Another popular drink requested by customers is the Hyatt Regency’s “Shot In The Arm”.
1 ounce Bourbon Whiskey
1 ounce Scotch Single Malt
1/2 ounce lemon juice
1/2 ounce Honey Syrup
1/4 oz. Ginger syrup
Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice cubes, shake vigorously, then strain into a highball glass with ice cubes. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
The Hyatt Regency Dallas is connected to the Reunion Tower, the star of Lone Star NYE.
When the clock strikes midnight, 10,000 pounds of fireworks will explode from the top of “The Ball” with over 200 LED lights on the Reunion Tower and over 200 drones for a choreographed show unlike anything seen on the line. Dallas skyline.
