Brandon Weatherz: The heat starts the week, but doesn’t stay

The coming week is off to a warm start with temperatures around 10 degrees above normal. These warmer conditions persist through Tuesday, then the highs drop into the 50s and 60s beginning Wednesday and continue daily through the weekend.

There will be a few opportunities for rain in the next few days, but each is rather isolated in nature. The first affects northwest communities in the late afternoon and evening as a few showers and thunderstorms move into Koochiching County. Overnight thunderstorms could develop in northwestern Wisconsin as well as along the international border. This tower narrows and moves eastward early Tuesday morning. A low chance of showers and thunderstorms follows a front through the day Tuesday, starting in north-central Minnesota in the early afternoon and moving east through the northwest of Wisconsin in the evening.

Wednesday is cool and windy with possible spotted nuggets. High pressure keeps us clear and cold on Thursday, then the next widespread chance of rain arrives Friday afternoon and carries through to Saturday.
