Authorities Identify Bodies of Kayakers Found Near Pictured Rocks | News, Sports, Jobs


MUNISING – The National Park Service has identified the two kayakers whose bodies were found near Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Friday as Kimberly Aiello from upstate Troy and David Delegato from downstate Shelby Township.

The kayakers were reported missing Thursday evening, said the NPS, which, along with other federal and state agencies, responded with search and rescue operations that ended Friday afternoon with the recovery of the bodies of the two casualties by the US Coast Guard along the Lake Superior coast.

The operations included the use of planes such as a C-130 and a rescue helicopter, the NPS said.

At the time of the initial call, gusty gusts of up to 35 knots and waves of 3 to 5 feet and sometimes 7 feet were reported over Lake Superior. This severe weather, noted the NPS, was a contributing factor that led to the “unfortunate” results.
