One of the big sporting stories of 2022 came in the form of Gujarat Titans (GT) winning the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) title in their first season in the league. Titans dominated the tournament from start to finish as they topped the standings and took their golden form into the playoffs where they beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) twice in Qualifying 1 and the shock at the top.
GT’s decision to hire Ashish Nehra and appoint Hardik Pandya as captain had raised eyebrows, but the duo worked wonders together as the team not only looked like a well-oiled unit on the pitch , but also had a camp with a relaxed team culture.

Nehra’s success as a coach has been one of the main talking points of the 2022 IPL season. The former Indian pacemaker was spotted carrying a piece of paper and a pen everywhere with him, unlike the other coaches at the tournament who used to sit in front of laptops and tablets. Nehra being constantly photographed with a paper in her hand near the dugout has also been the subject of hilarious memes on the internet.

While many wondered exactly what Nehra used to write on the paper, the GT head coach broke his silence and said he doesn’t know why it got so big. He hilariously revealed that he didn’t write anything significant on it and it was just to get the team training menu.

“There was nothing on the paper. I don’t know why everyone thinks there was anything important on the paper. Paper pe sirf menu tha ki practice pe hamaara menu kya hoga (he doesn’t was just the menu for our workout),” Nehra said in an interaction on Cricbuzz.

“I’m not a great coach. Just like you, I was also a spectator sitting outside. When the team wins, you talk about all these things. All coaches work hard and sometimes you get the results. Our first year at Gujarat Titans was really good and we are happy,” he added.
