Another slow start costs Cooper the loss of the second district | KTAB

Cooper head coach Aaron Roan’s team couldn’t hang on to the Fort Worth Brewer Bears in Division I District 3-5A on Friday night.

The Bears scored touchdowns in their first three touchdowns, and the Cougars weren’t able to match that. Cooper was in a 28-0 hole at halftime.

They did some things in the second half, but it was too little too late.

In the end, the slow start made the difference in the game.

Roan said, “We gave up on the big games early on. Brewer did a good job building up and keeping it going, especially in the first half. So, these are things we need to work on fixing this week. We have to get out faster. It’s mine. I have to prepare our children to go out and play. I was extremely proud of the way our kids reacted and continued to fight and fight in the second half. We got off early and it was just a bit too much to back off. Eliminating the big pieces was something we had been working on all week. This is in large part thanks to Brewer. It’s a good football team. They’re really good, and they took advantage of some things, and that’s how the ball bounced back last week.

The Cougars are heading home this week in a district game.

They welcome Saginaw to Shotwell Stadium Thursday night at 7 a.m.

Cooper beat the Rough Riders last year, 48-3.
